This beerstein is handmade in the Kannenbaeckerland, the German pottery and beerstein center.
Made in Germany.
Sculpted in the Westerwald around 1897 by master sculptor Wilhelm Kamp, King-Werk honors this great craftsmenship by choosing it to become the 2022 King Werk Annual Masterpiece Edition. The motif shows two noblemen having a great time in a castle's tavern. The meaning of the text, being an ancient toast says The tumbler is ready, toast and drink! . The stein's conical shape fits perfectly to the all over castle's tower scene. On the back -beneath the handle- we get a glimpse into the tavern's beer cellar. In addition to the underglaze paiting, this stein has been additionally hand-painted and fired again so that the motif appears more colorful. A heavy lid, made of genuine pewter, crowns this masterpiece. Limited to just 2,500 pieces world-wide, this is a great addition to every stein collection! Each stein is individually numbered and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

History of German Beer Steins

German beer steins have a unique and exciting history, beginning during the 14th century when a deadly plague swept Europe. To help contain the spread of the disease, German authorities imposed a rule requiring all citizens to cover their mugs with lids whenever they took drinks from public houses. This safety measure created an increased demand for traditional beer steins made in Germany, leading to an upsurge in their production and popularity. Beer steins remain highly sought after today, each crafted piece made with an intricate design or personal artwork that tells a story. Their history led steins to become a cultural symbol of heritage in Germany, which ushered in the creation of beer steins by local master craftsmen.
