The kneeling shepherd with his sheep shows a particularly intimate moment of the nativity scene. His posture combines calm, mindfulness and a quiet devotion that gives the depiction a gentle, almost personal touch. The natural-coloured finish emphasises this calm character and makes the scene feel warm and balanced. Made in Seiffen folk art according to designs by Schalling, this figure is created in the spa town of Seiffen. The design follows the traditional Schalling nativity scene art, which relies on clear shapes, balanced proportions and a restrained expressiveness. The four-part group of figures consists of the kneeling shepherd and three sheep depicted calmly. The kneeling posture creates a different effect than with standing figures: the gaze lowers, the scene gains closeness and inner peace. With a height of 9 cm, this group of figures is ideally suited to smaller Schalling nativity scenes or as a purposefully placed resting point within a larger nativity scene. She complements other shepherd figures without pushing herself into the foreground. The kneeling shepherd with sheep stands for modesty, quiet care and for the quiet moments of the Christmas story.
