In 1885, clockmaker August Schwer founded a company to make replicas of his original Black Forest cuckoo clock. The August Schwer factory is located in Schoenwald, in the heart of the Black Forest in Germany, and August Schwer cuckoo clocks became well known in many regions of the world because of the clockmaker’s dedication to intricate and detailed carvings on the cuckoo-clock face. In 2000, the company was taken over by Andreas Winter, a man who worked at August Schwer for many years and knows the company and its products well. Mr. Winter has won the annual “Cuckoo Clock of the Year” competition time and time again after his appointment, solidifying the August Schwer brand as one of the best brands of cuckoo clocks in the Black Forest.
