The Black Forest Clock Association holds a contest every year in Germany for the best traditional cuckoo clock. Cuckoo clock manufacturers in the association can enter, with the public gathering on one special day to place their vote. Since 2001 the best cuckoo clock brands have gone head to head to try to win the “Cuckoo Clock of the Year” award. Over 100 hand-crafted and elaborate clocks enter into the contest, and they are often the most expensive clocks you can buy due to all the intricate details carved and painted on them. You can see that the most eye-catching and unique cuckoo clocks have won the award in recent years. If you want to pick your very own cuckoo clock of the year, take a look below at our selection of the best cuckoo clock winners.

The 8 day running time movement need to be wind up once a week, that means you pull on the chains until the weights are up. It allows turning the hands left and right without endangering the mechanics of the movement. The music box is from the marketleader REUGE in switzerland. The size refers only to the clock, without pendulum and weights.
Winning the cuckoo clock of the year is a prestige honor. The August Schwer company has claimed the award eight times since 2004. All the clocks entered into the competition must be traditional mechanical cuckoo clocks that use the same craftsmanship passed down for generations. Past winners include Hones, Hubert Herr, Anton Schneider, and Rombach & Haas — which we stock in our online shop. If you want to see the winners in person, they are all displayed in a museum so people can continue to admire these works of art.
