German Black Forest weather houses
A German Black Forest weather house is a unique piece of history that dates back to the 1800s. It is a popular German souvenir that shares the temperature and displays whether the climate is humid or dry outside, just like a hygrometer. Usually, a weather house comes in the shape of an A-frame chalet, like many of our cuckoo clocks. It has two figurines inside two doors that move in and out of the house depending on the weather. We have many different styles of weather houses with decorations that include gardens, forests, and animals in many colors. Our German weather houses make great gifts and are loved by kids interested in science and weather patterns. Take a look at our beautifully hand-carved weather houses today.
This is how a weather house works:
There is a gut string inside, which reacts to all changes in the air humidity. Depending on whether the air is dry or humid, the gut string changes its position and twists more or less, so that the female turns outside when it is dry and the male, when it is humid.
